Q2. How can I make my hair color look good longer?

There are a number of things that you can do after you leave the salon to keep your hair color looking better, longer.

  1. Use the products recommended by your stylist to work with the chemicals used to color your hair.
  2. Don’t wash your hair the same day that you have it colored. Your scalp produces natural oils that will protect it from irritation from the chemicals, which you’ll be washing off if you shampoo your hair. The longer you can wait in between shampoos, the more the color will grab onto the hair.
  3. Use cooler water when washing your hair.
  4. Don’t dry your hair roughly with a towel, instead use a hair dryer on a low heat setting. This may take a little longer to dry your hair but low, gentle heat is better for your hair color.
  5. Swimming in chlorinated water will fade hair color quickly. Washing your hair out with distilled water after a swim will help.
  6. Try avoiding exposure to direct sunlight for long periods of time. Many of the products that your stylist recommends for your hair color will be formulated with elements to help protect your colored hair from the sun.
